Very similar to the last few matchups, the game started out as a grind it out type of game. The lady soldiers took a 12-11 first quarter lead by a quick 6 points from Ava Boike and 5 from Lainey Brewer. They then held Hamady to just 3 points in the second quarter and took a lead to the half of 17-14. “The last few times we have played them, it has been a low scoring and physical game. To win we knew we had to be physically and mentally tough.” Coach Jake Boike said. As the second half started, Hamady continue to face guard Ava trying to take her out of the game. However freshman Haven Chapman stepped up and rattled off 8 points in the 3rd to push the Soldiers lead to 32-23 after three quarters. With the chance to beat Hamady for the first time ever on the line, the girls ramped up their defense again and held the hawks to just 5 fourth quarter points and taking the game 39-28. “Hamady has been a girls powerhouse and we have been on the wrong side of some very lopsided games with them over the years. It felt great to get this win. We couldn’t be more proud of this group of girls” Coach DJ Boike.
Ava Boike finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Haven Chapman finished with a career high 13 points and 8 rebounds. Lainey Brewer added 10 points.
