Tuesday night the Soldiers squared off with GAC Hamady Hawks for a rematch in conference play. Their first contest ended with the Soldiers pulling out a win. While Hamady showed up with some new faces and more energy, the game got off to a very similar start as the first matchup, with the boys jumping out to a 10-0 lead with Trenton Boike scoring the team’s first eight points. But Hamady settled down, and finished the first quarter down 10-6. The Hawks rallied and outscored the Soldiers 20-12 in the second quarter, finishing the half up 26-22. The Soldiers were outscored again in the third quarter 14-18, giving the Hawks an eight-point lead headed to the fourth quarter. The boys fought their way back with an 18-10 fourth quarter. Lewis Jones scored a basket to take the lead with 7 seconds left, but Hamady came down and had a chance for a three-point play— but missed the free throw— which forced overtime. The Soldiers lost in overtime, after a three-point chance to win at the buzzer. The Soldiers were led by Lewis Jones with 16 points and 9 rebounds, Pierce Carpenter with 15 points, and Trenton Boike and Tyler Chapman each with 10 points. Next is Bentley, Away on 1/31 at 7 pm.
